International Brain Awareness Week March 12 – 18
International Brain Awareness Week – find out what’s new in brain research.
Every March, Brain Awareness Week (BAW), sponsored by The Dana Foundation, unites the efforts of partner organizations worldwide in a celebration of the brain for people of all ages. It is a global campaign to increase public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research. Events are limited only by the organizers’ imaginations and include open days at neuroscience labs; exhibitions about the brain; lectures on brain-related topics; displays at libraries and community centers; classroom workshops; and more. Here is some of resources you will find when visiting the BAW site:
- BAW Resources for event ideas, planning tips, outreach tools, education and science resources, and downloadable materials.
- International Calendar of Events for BAW activities.
- Downloadable Materials for puzzles and coloring sheets.
As for The Dana Foundation, itself… it is a private philanthropic organization that supports brain research through grants and educates the public about the successes and potential of brain research. Dana produces free publications; coordinates the International Brain Awareness Week campaign; supports the Dana Alliances, a network of neuroscientists; and maintains a Web site, www.dana.org. Below are just three of the scores of web resources The Dana Foundation provides:
- Brain Web provides information and links to validated sites about brain diseases and disorders. These include outside resources reviewed by scientific advisors, as well as articles in Dana publications.
- Brainy Kids Online provides Online science resources for students, teachers, and parents.
- Brain Connections hosts a PDF source guide that lists more than 240 organizations in the United States likely to help those looking for information, referrals, and other guidance in connection with brain-related disorders.
Hi Lisa,
Thanks for sharing Brain Awareness Week. You have shared much valuable information about the effects of drug abuse on the brain, and appreciate the links to resources for parents and children.
Thank you, Cathy! I appreciate your comment.
