Having a Hard Time Controlling Your Drinking – Consider Soberistas.com
Are you having a hard time controlling your drinking? Let me introduce you to a group I’ve just learned of – Soberistas.com. I found them through an article one of my readers shared, “7 Reasons Why Life is Better Without Booze,” by Lucy Rocca, who, it turns out, is the founder of the website Soberistas.com. I especially liked her reason #6, which I’m quoting from the article:
6. You find out who you really are. Alcohol has such a powerful effect on the body and mind that it’s impossible to find out who you are when you’re regularly getting sloshed. It’s only with living alcohol-free that true self-discovery becomes a possibility. By learning to know yourself better, you have a fighting chance of finding out what you want from life, as well as all that you’re capable of achieving.
…which in turn prompted me to want to know more about Lucy, whose author bio stated, “Lucy gave up drinking alcohol 2 and a half years ago and discovered how much better life is without it. Lucy, 38, lives with her family in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, and is devoting all her spare time to try and help other women overcome their binge-drinking and/or alcohol dependency issues, through the novel idea of a social networking site for ex-drinkers and those who are looking for help in becoming teetotal. She is also co-author of The Sober Revolution: Women Calling Time on Wine o’clock, a book specifically written for women who are looking for a way out of the alcohol trap.”
I was hooked. For those who follow my blog know — I am always looking to share ways that others have found helpful in their efforts to control or stop their drinking. So I would like to share the following BBC Radio interview with Lucy Rocca and Sarah Turner (her co-author of The Sober Revolution):
And then I leave you with information about and the link to Soberistas.com, self-described as:
“…a social network that is free to join where you can meet people who are trying to resolve their problematic drinking patterns, and people who have successfully kicked the booze. Talk, write, offload, share – join Soberistas, today. All personal member details, i.e. Email addresses, are kept completely confidential and not shared with any other 3rd parties.”
With over 22,000 members – clearly they’re onto something!
Hi Lisa,
Is Soberistas a website designed specifically to help women, or can men partake as well? I wasn’t sure since a lot of what I’ve read seems aimed at helping women with alcohol problems.
Thanks for your help!
Mike
Hi Mike – I’m not sure if men can partake or not – probably the best bet is to try contacting her to see what she says. Good luck, Lisa
